Limelight

I decided to my weekly blog on a RUSH song called Limelight. This song is based on the whole thought of being famous and understanding that you cannot let the stardom get to you and think you are better and you are not like normal day to day people. The text is like what I just wrote about, it tells about how one can become famous and look down upon everyone. And with that it connects to a larger story as a whole. The category of story it tells is probably a song format, and probably around fiction/reality due to the subject being sung about. The characters are real, as they are casting the likes around real people in the song. This appeals to me because there is one certain line where Geddy sings "I can't pretented a stranger is a long awaited friend.". Im not sure why this speaks to me, but I think it has to do with getting to know people after not having to many friends throughout highschool. I think it applies to anyone who likes a good lyrical song and has a strong beat and rhythm that happens to go along with it. This appeals to people because it is RUSH and who doesn't like RUSH? RUSH is awesome and are legendary.

Key Concept #3

I think that we are getting the type of movie we want to see, the reason why they listen to us is because they want it to succeed and make money for the film makers. With the test screening people get to see what may not be appetizing and therefore bluff it off and say it is not worth even showing the movie with this in it.

Keeping Mum is a movie I only watched because my favourite comedian Rowan Atkinson was in it. It was a horrible movie and if I was at a screening for this movie I would have suggested not such a horrible creepy death scene and plot leading up to it. I'm not sure what else could have made it better other than scrapping it, or letting an appearance of Mr.Bean happen which would have been a total riot.

The Contruction Catch

Along with CSI and other construction reality it grabs most of us and makes us think it is real. Series shows for example like CSI and Grey's Anatomy create a false image on the world and transform a lot of people to think that this is what goes on in people's jobs. The reason people can't distinguish between this and reality is that this constructed media is so perfectly constructed it looks amazing! But in life a lot of the constructed stuff is no where as nice as the constructed stuff, leading to the thought that peoples' mind set is perfect. In the latest CSI episode Beiber gets shot, but there is evidence this is not real and that CSI is constructed media. From the time on the video 0:10 to 0:32 Bieber seems to have his gun, then looses it as he is gunned down and the view is from behind, and then from the front view of him getting shot he majically has his gun reappear in his hand. This is a prime example of how CSI is constructed reality.

Photo Retouching

I think photo retouching has gone too far, it changes the image entirely and makes it a "creation". I think some effects it has on people is self-esteem, you look at that perfect picture and go "WOW!" "I wish I looked liked that". This makes people feel bad about their selves and wishes they looked better, thus forcing them to try and do so with various products and possibly surgeries. I think now that I know about the retouching I look at tv, magazine ads differently knowing that there is a definite chance they're created images. With all the face lifts and re-colouring in photoshop every photo that has a celebrity on is definaltely tampered with. Photo retouching has gone too far, certain people have an idea of what perfect is and they have to create it since there is no such thing as a perfect person. And in the above photo you can clearly see they re-vamped the image, key spots are the wrinkles, shrunken nose, brighter and bolder eyes.

Media Blog 1

This is a good first blog topic considering the Olympics started one year ago today. In this picture it shows the USA mens Olympic team standing around after defeat in the gold medal game. USA lost to Canada in overtime resulting in a Canada wide celebration. In this photo the team is standing around and someone has added the caption "USA Hockey, Maybe we should just stick with baseball..?" Not only is this poking at their loss it is saying that hockey is Canada's sport, so go back and play baseball. But in all honesty if our Canadian team was so good then we would have won in regulation and have had a couple goal lead, or a cushion in case our team fell apart. Someone was just envious that we won and USA loss and had to rub it in their face even more by creating this border and caption to this photo. Ya we won but it was a lucky break in overtime that sealed the golden medal for Canada.
